Your
Name: Pia Kirke (Rosemarye D'Agostin)
Kennel Name: Tilcha
Country: Australia
Year you got your first Lowchen? 1976
Year you began breeding? 1977
How did you become interested in the breed? I saw the breed
when I was visiting the UK on a tour of dog shows, and was instantly
interested in this delightful little dog.
What do you love most about them? Where does one start properly
their uniqueness of personality.
Which dog, from photo or real life epitomises what a Lowchen should
be? Eng & Irish Ch.Cluneen Adam Adamant
What were your aims at the beginning of your breeding program?
To breed this delightful breed for show and pets as they are such a
good companion dog
Have your aims and directions changed? Only to now be more aware
of the health of the breed! And if so, what brought about this change?
More awareness of the need to test for problems that are coming up in
the breed
Which of your litters do you consider to be your best you have bred
to date? And why? I think the litter that 5 out 6 dogs won many
in group awards and reached there Australian titles! But the two dogs
that stand out are from different litters one is NZ CH Tilcha Jupiter
and the other is Aust. Ch Tilcha Fashions pride. Both these dogs brought
the breed into the eyes of other breeders and were very good representatives
of the breed in those formation years
Which single dog would you consider is the very best that you have
bred, and why? Aust Champion Tilcha Jespa, Because he helped to
stabilise the size he was also the strong influence behind Aust. Ch
Tilcha Fashions Pride.
Which single dog do you feel has made the biggest impact on your
breeding, up until this point? And why? Aust Ch Jilland Double Diamante(imp
UK) Because she was such a good type and the correct balance and produced
most of the early top winning dogs.
As
a breeder, what characteristic will you not tolerate when evaluating
a Lowchen for show and/or breeding? Bad temperament and short legs.
What characteristic do you hold higher than all else, when evaluting
a Lowchen for show and/or breeding? The Characteristic of the breed
Gay active and alert.
Is there a characteristic that you feel the breed is lacking as a
whole, or is in danger of being lost? Balance and the free spirit
of the dog in the ring.
Where
do you think the breed will be in 5 years? Hopefully not to popular,
but I think it is getting strong now.
Which
of the Lowchen standards, that have historically or presently been used,
do you follow? English.
Is there any part of historical or present standards you do not agree
with? Exaggeration in any way.
If there was something you would add or change to the standard used
in your own country? I would like to add just 'off-square'.
Is
there any single person or kennel which you admire above others?
? No I think there are many good kennels who have the breed at heart.
Please list your top 5 all time favourite dogs (from photos/real
life):
1. Eng & Irish Ch.Cluneen Adam Adamant
2. EngCh Cluneen Count Bolero
3. Aust Ch Jilland Double Diamante(imp UK)
4. Irish Ch Cluneen Evening Echo
I am stopping here as there have been many more that I think are great
dogs.
In
closing, is there anything you wish to convey to other Lowchen lovers
about the breed? Yes just to love them and make the most of every
day you have with them, and if you want a dog that someone you may not
like has breed then take your ego out of it and buy it if you can and
the same goes for using stud dogs you do not have to like the breeder
to like there stock! This is the main thing I would like to say to all
breeders .
